URGENT SAFETY NOTICE: 85,000+ Tumble Dryers Recalled Due To Fire Risk

What’s Happening?
An urgent safety notice has been issued for approximately 85,000 heat pump tumble dryers sold under eight major brands – Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Haier, Hooever, Iberna, Lamona and Montpellier due to serious risk of fire.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) warns that an internal short circuit can cause these machines to ignite during use, posing a significant fire risk. If you purchased a specific model (detailed below) between 2019 and 2025, you are advised to urgently check your appliance. You can use the manufacturers 16-digit serial number checker to find out if your machine was affected.
This is a critical escalation of a previous recall which initially covered 103,000 machines. The modifications/repair was found to be insufficient, meaning even machines previously “fixed” may still be at risk. If in doubt, please check your appliance.
The affected dryers include models from Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Haier, Hoover, Iberna, Lamona, and Montpellier.
If you own an affected model, you are advised to stop using the product immediately and unplug it from the wall.

What If I Can’t Find My Model Information?
If you’ve lost your paperwork or can’t locate the model label:
- Contact the retailer where you bought it – they’ll have purchase records
- Contact the manufacturer with your purchase date and description
- If you’re unsure at all, treat it as recalled and stop using it
It’s better to be without a dryer for a few days than risk a house fire.
Why Did This Take So Long To Recall?
These recalls were issued between November 2024 and January 2025. If you’re just learning about this now, you’re not alone – many people miss product recall notices because:
- They don’t register their appliances
- Manufacturers have limited ways to contact owners
- Recall notices don’t always make mainstream news

Frequently Asked Questions?
“My dryer is from 2023, is it too new to be affected?”
No – the affected models include recent purchases. Check anyway.
“My dryer seems fine, do I really need to stop using it?”
Yes. Faulty appliances can work normally for years before failing catastrophically.
“Will the manufacturer pay for my laundry costs while it’s being fixed?”
Some manufacturers offer compensation for inconvenience – ask when you contact them.
“What if I bought my dryer second-hand?”
You’re still eligible for free repair or replacement. Register using your dryer’s serial number.
“Can I just be careful and keep using it?”
No. The fault can occur without warning. It’s not worth the risk.
